Immunization Injury Lawyers Serving Chicago and Nationwide

Each US state has vaccination requirements for children in the public school system. These inoculations are safe for most children, but other children have severe reactions to the types of vaccines that are recommended across-the-board. Your child's body may respond differently to a certain vaccine.

If you have a child who has been injured by a bad reaction to a vaccine, you are entitled to compensation from the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program. Attorney Ed Kraus and our law team at the Law Offices of Chicago-Kent can handle the claim process for you and work to try to get you the compensation you and your child deserve.

Vaccines Recommended for Children

Childhood vaccines are recommended for many different diseases, including:

When your child gets these vaccines, you will be provided with a Vaccine Information Statement, a sheet of paper listing the risks and benefits of vaccines. The VIS will even tell you about the rare, severe side effects of the vaccine. Even though you are warned of these risks ahead of time, you and your child are still entitled to compensation if your child experiences one of the severe problems. The Vaccine Injury Compensation Program is a no-fault system, so our team only must prove that the vaccine caused the injury, whether you knew it was a possibility or not.

Preventing Childhood Vaccine Injuries

In some cases, it may be possible to prevent a vaccine injury. The VIS will list situations and health conditions that are reasons for your child not to have a specific vaccine. Tell your doctor or the health center administering the vaccine about your child's current and ongoing health conditions and about any past vaccine reactions.

Unfortunately, even healthy children can suffer severe vaccine injuries, though they have no known reason not to get the vaccine. Your child may be experiencing a serious reaction to a vaccine if he or she displays:

  • High fever
  • Seizure
  • Breathing problems
  • Hives
  • Muscles weakness

Your child needs immediate medical attention if you notice these or other serious symptoms after vaccination. It is, however, usually normal for a child to have mild reactions like redness, swelling or itching at the injection site.
